동물은 먹이의 종류, 먹이를 잡거나 먹는 방법에 따라 해당 기관의 모습과 그 기능이 서로 다르다. 예를 들어, 독수리 및 수리 종류는 커다란 부리 때문에 먹이가 되는 큰 동물의 사체 안으로 머리를 집어넣지 않고도 먹이를 먹을 수 있다. 오리과의 부리는 물과 진흙을 걸러 먹이를 먹기 편하도록 납작한 형태이다.

The appearance and functions of an animal’s features differ according to what they eat, and how they acquire and eat the food. For example, eagles or the Accipitridae can eat without putting their heads into dead animals due to their big beaks. Ducks have flat beaks so that they can sift out water and mud and eat to only the food.
