하루 중 땅의 표면에서 태양의 높이가 가장 높을 때를 태양의 남중 고도라고 한다. 태양의 남중 고도는 하지 때 가장 높고, 동지 때 가장 낮다. 이때 일정 면적에 도달하는 태양 복사 에너지는 태양의 고도에 비례한다

The meridian altitude of the sun refers to when the sun is highest from ground. The meridian altitude of the sun is highest during the summer solstice and lowest during the winter solstice. The solar radiation energy reaching a certain surface area is proportionate to the solar altitude.
