바람에 의해 모래가 이동하면서 쌓여 생긴 언덕을 사구라고 한다. 사구의 모양은 모래의 공급량이나 풍속, 풍향과 그 변화, 주변 지형들에 의해 형태가 다르게 나타난다. 초승달 모양을 가진 바르한, 바람이 불어오는 방향과 직각을 이루어 길게 형성되는 횡사구, 바람이 불어 오는 방향과 같은 방향으로 발달하는 모래 더미인 종사구 등이 있다.

Hills made when sand moves and accumulates due to wind are called dunes. The shape of dunes differs according to the amount of sand, wind speed, wind direction and its changes, and surrounding topography. There is the crescent-shaped barchan, the transverse dune with a long shape due to forming a right angle with the direction of the wind, and the longitudinal dune formed in the same direction as the wind.
